"From a slight distance, the trio’s music — ambient instrumentals laden with reverb and often performed at an unhurried pace — can sound as fragile as smoke rings. Vintage surf music and spy-movie soundtracks are the most obvious touchstones here, but Mofsky also doesn’t strain to hide his punk-rock past. “Bob Stinson” summons the ghost of the late Replacements guitarist not only in its title, but in an insistent hook that mirrors that band at its peak, something Mofsky also accomplished during his days with Quit. Meanwhile, a subtle nod to Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” appears in “The Wednesday Night Song,” the sprawling track that leads off Sirens."
