Influence #2

Al Caiola

Al Caiola was on my radar before the Clee-Shays, he was a studio musician who specialized in what was called “big guitar” in the 1960’s. His sound was derivative of Duane Eddy and found its way into some big hits, movies, and TV shows. The themes from The Magnificent Seven, Bonanza, Wagon Train (Wagons Ho), Gunslinger, From Russia with Love, and The Rebel, The Guns of Navarone among others.

Here’s the theme from The Magnificent Seven. There’s plenty more if you dig this. Oh, and hats off to my grandfather for sitting me down with him through countless TV westerns, John Wayne, Hee-Haw, and all the sitcoms from the ’50s-’60s.
